Born in Paris his mother lost most of her family in the Holocaust, and when Reuven was two years old, they immigrated to Israel and settled in Tel Aviv. Reuven was a child with an active mind, energetic, athletic and with an independent and individualistic spirit. When he was 12 years old, his father died unexpectedly, and due to his mother's need to provide for the family, Reuven and his twin sister Eve moved to a boarding school.
